Wednesday, 28 December
Today, we had a visit from the Police. It seems Mr and Mrs Cobstanding have been growing marijuana
in their spare room, with seeds they brought back from Amsterdam. They have been using it to make
up a herbal drink, which actually they have given me bottles of, and which I always found quite
palatable, and a good way to relax. Anyway, it seems that what they are doing is illegal, even though
they have not smoked any. The Police aren't going to prosecute, but they have given them an ASBO
and told them not to do it again. Some of their regular visitors from the Young Offenders
Hostel will be disappointed, as I gather that they always enjoyed a glass or two of the drink.
| Sunday, 1 January
Mrs Keypartner has won once again at Bingo, which has caused some friction. Some residents
have accused her of cheating, which I think is most unfair. Mrs K has always been a good
resident, often helping others, and of course we are grateful that her daughter is willing
to do the Bingo calling whenever we ask.
| Saturday, 7 January
Mr Gate and Mrs Golightly have decided to get married. They have agreed to have the wedding
celebration at Silver Vistas, so that's a nice bit of rental income to boost the Silver Vistas
bottom line. I think some of the other ladies are disappointed, as there are not many eligible
men here in the village. Mrs G will be moving in with Mr G, so they will be putting her flat
up for sale. It will be interesting to see what they get for it. We have an arrangement
with the local Estate Agents, so that some of the sales commission comes back to Silver
Vistas through sponsorship of the Bingo sessions. So we are all going to benefit
from this marriage!
| Sunday, 8 January
Rain again today. We have a leak in the roof of the communal area, with a portable commode
catching the drips, but unfortunately it has overflowed. I'll have to chase up head office
for the approval on fixing the leak.
